No better way to cap off a 6-month web application pentesting training program than with a shiny new certification that I had unintentionally been training for anyway (I had been working through many PostSwigger Academy labs in the months prior). I was at the finish line of the program when I heard about the Burp Suite Certified Practitioner exam. The program focuses on web application training, so it is typical to start out with web application pentests right after the program which is what I do now. hopes and dreams, right? A saving grace was bestowed upon me when I was contacted by a company to interview for a 6-month pentesting training program that, upon completion, allows you to be a professional pentester with them. Apparently, you can’t cram for one of the hardest industry certifications in 2 weeks. My exam voucher was nearing expiration, so with about 2 weeks left I began cramming!. But wait, isn’t this a review about a hacking certification? Because I was so wrapped up in my new work, I had abandoned OSCP training. I even passed two Splunk certifications: Splunk Core Certified User and Splunk Core Certified Power User (let me know if you want to know more about those). Within 6 months, I was knowledgeable in LogRhythm, QRadar, and Splunk. Despite the sea of information that I was drowning in, I enjoyed it and became quite good at it. I would do 8 hours of training during work then a couple of hours watching training videos on my own at night. I had absolutely no experience with SIEMs, so when I started my new job, it was chaos. While preparing, I was contacted to interview for a SIEM engineering job which I later accepted.
